Violence drops to lowest level recorded since Assad’s fall; but dangers posed by ISIS & vigilante justice increasing.
The overall level of violence in Syria dropped to its lowest level recorded by Syria Weekly since Bashar al-Assad’s fall from power in December 2024 — with 41 deaths recorded nationwide from April 15-22. Of those 41 deaths, 17 (or 41%) were caused by unexploded ordinance (UXO), meaning just 24 deaths were caused by direct kinetic violence. That is a remarkably low number in the context of more than 14 years of internal conflict.
